Guitar Lesson For Newbies - Triumph Over That Chord Shifting Obstacle
As I began to play acoustic guitar more than 3 decades ago I started with learning the various open chords. Correct choice or not is up to you to judge, but my primary goal was to learn how to play my personal favourite songs. During the time it absolutely was all about The Beatles.
I had one particular very big problem, amongst others, understanding the various chords. It didn't take such a long time for me to get the hang of the right way to play each individual chord, but when I was to alter between chords I truly got jammed.
My fingers felt clumsy, I stopped playing between chords and I had a really hard time at this stage, annoyed by the chord changing issues. More than once I nearly gave it all up and more than one time decided to set aside the guitar.
If you're in the same place I've a few strategies to make it a little bit less complicated for you.
Relax
It's very crucial that you keep your left hand relaxed. A stiff hand will make it much harder to play chords. So keep it loose. Additionally, pay attention to your thumb. It needs to be positioned on the back of the guitar neck instead of climbing over the top of the guitar. If it does, you'll find it very difficult to play a G chord or, later on, barre chords.
Lift up and down
Start with a simple chord, like E minor. Play four downstrokes and lift your fingers off, pretending to change chords. And then put your fingers back on the E minor chord, playing 4 more strums. Try to put all of your fingers down simultaneously.
Playing 2 chords
The next task is to play two chords. Try to use E minor and A minor. Just like before, play 4 downstrokes, lift your fingers and put them down on the Am chord.
The fourth downstroke
