Jewelry Box Large for Chunky Ethnic Jewelry: Focus on Wood Inlay with Red Narra Wood

Getting a jewelry box large enough to hold your entire collection of exquisite jewelry is not a very difficult task if you know what you are looking for. A large jewelry box helps you sort out and store your extensive collection in sets based on color, metal, or type of jewelry. It will be much simpler to find the pieces of jewelry you want to match your dress.

A box that big can look out of place on your dresser if it is not beautiful by itself; like a handcrafted jewelry box with some exotic marquetry work done on it. Just the sheer beauty of the box should be able to attract attention away from its size! You could go for a box that is made entirely out of an exotic wood like the Red Narra if you are not on a shoestring budget. If money is tight, you can still get yourself a reasonably priced box made of white mahogany with some elegant wood inlay done on it. This will work out much cheaper as the wood is locally available as opposed to rare wood, which is imported.

The Red Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) is found in several parts of Asia (Thailand, Burma, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc) and northern Australasia; It is the national tree of the Philippines. It is part of the Fabaceae or Leguminosae pea family. It is also known by many different names in different parts of the globe: Asana, Burmese Rosewood, Kaibocca Wood, Tnug, Sonokembang, Sena, Angsana, Andaman Redwood, etc, are some of the more common names.

The beautiful Amboyna burl comes from the same tree. The trunk of the tree measures about 2 m. in diameter and the tree grows really tall to a height of approximately 40 m.. On most of these trees, you can find several buttresses, extending upwards and outwards, surrounding the tree. It is a very hard and heavy wood.

In some places, the hardwood could exhibit a purple color but mostly it is colored a reddish orange, rose, or reddish tan. In fact, when you hold up a piece of this wood to the light, you will be able to see its appearance change at every angle. A substance that is naturally present in its wood cells, also make this wood turn a beautiful opalescent color when submerged in water.

Red Narra Wood is great for marquetry designs because of its diverse patterns and intense colors that make it an absolutely unique wood. An intricately carved wooden jewelry box with fascinating marquetry designs may turn out to be the best gift you've given yourself and your jewelry!
